KL Neon Light Portraits With Sandy – SIRUI Autofocus Lens

The SIRUI Sniper Series is one of the latest SIRUI autofocus lenses in the market. Shooting neon light portraits with the SIRUI Sniper 23mm f1.2 lens can be an exciting and creative endeavor for me. Neon lights can add vibrant colors and a unique atmosphere to your portraits giving a cyberpunk vibe and even mysterious movie-like scenes.

Armed with the SIRUI Sniper 23mm f1.2 lens, we embark on a nocturnal journey through the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur, weaving a tapestry of moody neon light portraits against the backdrop of two iconic districts – Bukit Bintang and Chinatown.

I consider this one of the best neon light photography I have ever done in KL. I also included this neon light photoshoot in my list of the best cinematic portrait collections. Our exploration begins in the neon-lit heart of Bukit Bintang, known for its vibrant nightlife and bustling energy. Here, amidst the glitzy shopping malls and lively streets, we discover neon treasures that promise to transform our portraits into visual tales of cyberpunk wonder.

Is SIRUI Autofocus Lens Good For Neon Light Portraits?

Sandy and I had a truly magical experience wandering through the Lot 10 area, admiring the stunning lighting that graced this part of town. It was truly a feast for the senses – vibrant hues and tones that blended seamlessly together, illuminating the streets in a dazzling display. What made our experience all the more special was the fact that we had employed an innovative and unique technique: we had used a massive LED screen as our portrait light source.

The effect was absolutely enchanting – our faces were bathed in a soft glow that accentuated our features and made for some truly stunning photographs. It was a moment that we will never forget, and we are grateful for the opportunity to witness and capture such a beautiful display of light and color.

As I walked through the streets, I couldn’t resist but come back to the exact same spot to collect all my memories from the shoot. It was like an engraved ritual that I had to follow. But while I was at it, I also decided to test out one of my proudest Obscura recipes creations, the Neon Obscura that I had specifically designed for cinematic night shoots with the SIRUI autofocus lens.

Not only that, but we also took some incredible fashion-styled neon light portraits using the artificial lighting from nearby shops. The contrast of the background and the subjects made for some truly unique and stunning shots that I will always cherish.

When it comes to testing the capabilities of the SIRUI Sniper 23mm f1.2 lens, there’s no better time than at night. Not only do the low-light conditions allow you to fully explore the lens’ features, but it can also inspire your creative side. As you experiment with shooting at f1.2, one thing you may notice is that the images can come out quite soft. This is simply a result of the wide aperture, which can make focusing a bit trickier.

To combat this issue, many photographers find themselves closing down the aperture to f1.4 or other similar settings. While this may seem like a small tweak, it can often be the difference between a blurry and sharp image, and ultimately allows you to take full advantage of the SIRUI Sniper’s 23mm focal length.

Chasing The Light With SIRUI Autofocus Lens

Whether I am shooting at night on the bustling streets of Bukit Bintang or exploring the hidden corners of Chinatown, I am constantly chasing the light, following its dance, and figuring out ways to incorporate its unique glow into my compositions. Moreover, I love how neon light illuminates the subject’s face and adds a sense of moodiness and dreaminess to my photos, making them even more dynamic and compelling. Simply put, chasing the light is a never-ending adventure that always leads to stunning results.

With the lens wide open at f1.2, we dive into the realm of shallow depth of field. Sandy stands out against the neon-lit backdrops of Chinatown, creating portraits that exude mystery and allure. Every click of the shutter captures not just an image but a moment, frozen in time and bathed in the ethereal glow of neon. I love this shoot. As for the lighting equipment, an LED light stick can be useful for taking neon light portrait photos when there isn’t enough light. It’s pretty handy to bring one if you’re shooting night portraits without using a flash.

Using FX Filters For Artistic Shots With The SIRUI Autofocus Lens

In anticipation of this shoot, I recently purchased not one, not two, but three different FX lens filters! Each filter was specifically chosen for its unique creative effect that I am eager to experiment with during this shoot. To enhance the visual narrative, experiment with FX lens filters. Consider using filters that accentuate specific colors, add a soft focus, or create lens flares. These filters can add a touch of cinematic magic to your neon light portraits, elevating them to new creative heights.

When paired with the SIRUI autofocus lens, the results will be mind-blowing. Some of the filters I’ve used for the night test shoot are Star filter, 9 Prism Kaleidoscope, and 4 Prism Swirl Kaleidoscope filter.

Conclusion

My experience with the SIRUI Sniper 23mm f1.2 lens on our nighttime neon light adventure was truly an incredible journey that we will never forget. We were transported to the pulsating heart of Bukit Bintang and Chinatown, where we captured stunning photographs that truly showcased the incredible relationship between technology and creativity.
