Many new film photographers in Malaysia or travellers might be asking the same question, where can I buy 35mm camera films in Malaysia? You have come to the right place let me enlighten you a bit and share some of my favourite platforms to buy film rolls in Malaysia. The demand for film stocks in Malaysia has been increasing recently as many new photographers including me try to get a hands-on film camera and explore the unique colour tone of each film stock. While the price of 35mm film stocks is considered expensive compared to previous years, many photographers still want to buy and shoot films nowadays.
When it comes to film photography, is a fun hobby that let you have peace of mind. Because you don’t want to shoot too fast and get bad photos. As there is a popular saying among film shooters in Malaysia…
make every shots counts, because each shot is money.
Buying 35mm Films Online
I have been shooting my 19th roll of various film brands for less than a year, the films including Kodak Portra 400, Kodak Vision3 500T, LomoChrome Metropolis, Ilford Delta 100 and more. Where did I get those films for 35mm film cameras? I’ve been shooting the Kodak Vision3 500T and has become one of my favourite film stocks. I did a lot of shoots with this film. You will know if you have browsed through or read about the film photography project reviews I’ve done so far.
The best way to buy 35mm camera films in Malaysia is to purchase them online, at a camera shop or bulked roll film. As for me, I would prefer to shop online on Shopee or Lazada for my favourite films. Usually, I will buy all my favourite Alien films Kodak Vision3 250D & 500T on Shopee at a very affordable price from Lucid Film Shop or buy through film sellers on Facebook. You can check out some of the motion picture film photos for inspiration.
With the recent restocked of Kodak Gold 200, Kodak Ultramax 400 and Kodak ColorPlus 200 35mm film which is currently available on Shopee, film photographers will be able to stash more films or buy in bulk. If you are planning to get creative films or rare films, you can check out The Film Shop, also known as Snakje on Shopee. You will be able to find creative films such as Dubblefilm Bubblegum 35mm film, Lomography as well as Lomography film cameras.
I always get most of the Kodak Vision3 motion picture films from The Lucid Film Shop and colour negative films from The Film Shop on Shopee. These two 35mm camera films from online shops on Shopee are my favourites. If you are into black & white photography, you can also buy Ilford Delta films from YL Camera on Shopee.
Buy Camera Films from Online Camera Shops
Buy online from camera shops in Malaysia – You can get 35mm or 120mm films online through camera shop websites. The popular online camera shop in Malaysia is Shashinki where I used to buy the Kodak Portra 400 for film portrait photography use. Other than that, if you want a faster response or interaction, I would recommend you to get from Eugene Leong on Facebook as you will be able to check on the 35mm camera film price list before making the order.
Buy films via Instagram – Do you know that you can buy camera films on Instagram? But you have to find a trusted seller. If you are on Instagram, do check out @filmthings_my. You will be able to shop for films as well as some nice point-and-shoot film cameras.
Buy from film labs – Last but not least, my favourite film lab in Malaysia is the Darkroom8. All my film photos are developed and scanned at this film lab and guess what? You can buy 35mm films for your film camera from them too! You can buy their bulk roll of Kodak Vision3 500T as well as some other Kodak films.
